1930 el joven director Eduardo Morera invitó a
Carlos Gardel a filmar una de las primeras películas
sonoras del cine argentino. La idea era mostrar al Zorzal
cantando sus grandes éxitos junto a los compositores
de éstos, como Discépolo. Este iba a ser
el primer fil de Gardel, pero fue recién en 1955
cuando Moera rescató estos fragmentos para realizar
un documental con testimonios de personalidades emblemáticas
de la música argentina como Mercedes Sosa. Es un
espléndido tesoro sobre una de las principales
figuras de la cultura popular rioplatense. |
'In
1930, in the heyday of his success, the then young
director Eduardo Morera invites Carlos Gardel to shoot
the first sound short films of Argentine cinema. The
idea is to show Zorzal singing his greatest hits,
while the composers of those hits - among them Celedonio
Flores, Enrique Santos Discépolo, and Francisco
Canaro - visit him on the set. This was going to be
Carlos Gardel's first attempt at cinema. In 1995 Morera
rescues these fragments from oblivion, liaising them
in this documentary with testimonies from emblematic
personalities of Argentine music, such as Tania, Imperio
Argentina or Mercedes Sosa. A historical document
of immense.The work concludes with impressive images
of the singer's burial, with "Mi Buenos Aires
Querido" playing in the background. It is an
excellent DVD edition of outstanding documentary value.
